This is a topic change from my last post. I felt that the last one lacked the substance to expand to a full idea. My new topic is about the sports community with identifying a possible problem of more severe sports injuries and frequency of those injuries.

This is a primary artifact of involving a player that was injured twice in the same game. The player is myself and I had compound concussions in the same game. This wasn't the only time during my soccer career that I got injured so I feel it supports the claim that sports injures are severe and frequent.

Documentary Topic #1

Engineering is very important to me. I have wanted to be an engineer since late middle school and have stuck with it. Engineering has shaped the classes I take and what I’m interested in.  With this in mind it only makes sense that I would like to do a documentary involving engineering. I may choose to be specific and focus on mechanical engineering or construction engineers.

A problem I may address is that engineers in general area a mystery to the public. The majority of people don’t know what engineers do for their job and that’s understandable. I will attempt to explain what engineers do as a broad statement.

Intro to Speech

It’s great to be at the University of Kentucky! My name is Ethan Pike. I’m really excited to be here to get a better education and take in the college experience. I am a freshman and have every intention of graduating in four, or four and a half, years with a degree in mechanical engineering. I currently reside in Woodland Glen three which is a dorm for the engineering LLP students. I’ve made some great friends in the dorm and believe it will help my success.

I grew up in a small town not far from here called Berea. I had lived in the same house my whole life with my family consisting of my mother, father, and little brother. Before I came to UK I was very involved with my friends and with my local church. I played video games, sports, or board games with them close to five occasions a week. I will miss them. I attended my church regularly on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. I also went to camps and mission trips with them over the summer and for many years before this. I have many mentors at that church and will miss that group and that church most of all.

While I may have moved out of my hometown I still like to do many of the things I did before. I still enjoy sports and close knit church groups like my friends at the Baptist Campus Ministry. The Johnson Center is a great place to work out or play racquetball and I go there at least five times a week. Whenever I’m not doing those things I am on YouTube, playing video games, or reading. My studies to take up some of my time, but I have a manageable semester so far and have had enough down time to really enjoy myself and meet new people.

It’s great to be part of the Big Blue Nation!

Regards,

Ethan Pike
